Penstemon are the party animal of perennials often flowering from May to November. The Pensham series of Penstemon are particularly robust and colourful.
They come in a fantastic array of colours and colour combinations with evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage, loved by bees and resistant to most garden pests, and are happy in sun or light shade in a free draining site, what is there not to love about these gutsy enthusiastic plants. If you deadhead spent flowers during the summer you will encourage more flowers and vigor. In autumn reduce the stems down to about a third of there height and dry mulch for frost protection. In late spring when new shoots appear at ground level then cut out all the old stems and leave the new ones start the party all over again.
